The Center for Digital Government has announced the winners of its 2004 Best of the Web contest, which recognizes the best Web sites hosted by state, county, and city governments. The center judges Web sites on their innovation, Web-based delivery of public services, efficiency, economy, and functionality for improved citizen access.
Fort Collins, Colorado (fcgov.com), which emphasizes customer service in the development and maintenance of its portal, captured first place among city Web sites. Other winning cities included Phoenix, Arizona (phoenix.gov); New York, New York (nyc.gov); Chicago, Illinois (egov.cityofchicago.org), New Orleans, Louisiana (cityofno.com); and Dallas, Texas (dallascityhall.com). The top five winners among counties were Miami-Dade County, Florida (miamidade.gov); Santa Clara County, California (sccgov.org); Fulton County, Georgia (co.fulton.ga.us); King County, Washington (metrokc.gov); and San Diego County, California (sdcounty.ca.gov).
