Larger screens, lower prices, and better performance are making LCD TVs one of the fastest-growing categories in the television market.

The Ratings in this Update feature 36 models, including 12 that arrived too late to test for last month's report. All but two of the new additions have 26-inch or larger screens, suitable for a household's primary set.

Most LCD TVs have screens ranging from 14 to 32 inches diagonally, but there's a growing selection of larger screens measuring 37 to 46 inches. Even at those sizes, LCD TVs--like plasma models--measure only a few inches thick. That makes smaller sets good for hanging from a kitchen cabinet or sitting ...
