Ford, de Sole bow out
In April, Gucci and YSL creative director Tom Ford with his partner in success, Gucci Group CEO Domenico de Sole, resigned from their respective positions after an impasse with the bosses of partner company and French retail giant Pinault Printemps Redoute over creative control of the design house.
The move was seen as the end of an era, as Ford is acknowledged as one of the most influential designers of the previous decade. Ford and De Sole are credited for the successful resuscitation of the almost-bankrupt fashion house.
When the Gucci Group bought into Yves Saint Laurent, Ford took on the position of creative director, designing both labels at the same time. He kept his promise to make the two labels both sexy but distinct, making Gucci and YSL two…
