Orcadian athlete William Sichel will make his American debut in the Across the Years race in Arizona on Hogmanay.
The international ultra-distance runner, representing Orkney AC, has been selected to compete in the 22nd staging of the annual 24-hour event.
The 500-metre course has been constructed around the grounds of the Nardini Manor Hotel in Phoenix. The programme features three-day, two-day and one-day races all finishing at 9am local time on January 1.
Sichel is fresh from his silver medal at the world 24hr championships in the Czech Republic, where he covered 133.4 miles.
His best run of the year was in May, when he finished fourth in the Dutch championships with 134.4 miles. That performance earned him the UK number two ranking.
