On Monday, October 25th, President Bush signed into law the Family Farmer Bankruptcy Relief Act, S. 2864, legislation providing the extension until July 1, 2005, for Chapter 12, family farmer bankruptcy protections. The bill was introduced to retroactively renew and temporarily extend those bankruptcy protections that farmers have come to rely upon because Chapter 12 of the Bankruptcy Code expired on January 1, 2004.
