Dave Mark NINE-month-old Paige Windsor's short life was brutal and violent - and ended when she was battered to death because she would not stop crying.

Yesterday, her mother, who abandoned Paige with a friend despite the warnings of social workers, was locked up, as was the man who killed her.

Although social workers were aware of the case, they were left virtually powerless to help by the obstructive, uncaring attitude of Paige's mother, and because there was never any allegation of the baby being harmed.

Last night, an investigation was launched by the area's child protection committee into the case, described as one of the worst incidents of child abuse ever seen in the area.

Today, Kenneth Crowston, 26, begins a life sentence for murder, after a court heard he repeatedly slammed Paige's head into the floor of his Scunthorpe flat because she would not stop …
