Zagreb, 19 December: Only a day after European Union leaders decided in Brussels to open membership talks with Croatia in March next year, provided that Zagreb fully cooperates with the Hague-based International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY), Croatian President Stjepan Mesic said he was confident that he would lead his country into full EU membership.
