Zagreb, 17 December: Croatian President Stjepan Mesic [17 December] on Friday called on citizens to vote for him and help accomplish the ideals which he said motivated Croatian citizens in 1971, 1990, 1991 and 2000.

Speaking at the start of his presidential campaign in a packed hall of the Croatian Journalists Society in Zagreb, Mesic said that during his term in office he had done his utmost to promote Croatia and the stability and security of the state.
