The six trios presented here were composed and published as a set during Telemann's Frankfurt period, following the publication of his Six sonates a violon seul (1715), and the Kleine Cammer-Music (1716). During this period Telemann wrote for players at varying levels of expertise; the Kleine Cammer-Music was notable in that it was written to accommodate amateurs and virtuosos equally well. But these six trios were meant specifically for accomplished players, and are both longer and more technically demanding than much of the chamber music he produced during his six years in Frankfurt.
