CEBU-Eric Deen bucked a double-bogey on the fourth hole with a two-over-par 74 yesterday to move up two shots over archrival Carl Almario in the opening round of the Samsung Amateur Golf Tour at the exclusive Cebu Country Club here.

Deen recovered from that early mistake to shoot two birdies on the seventh and 10th that made up for bogeys on Nos. 8 and 12 as he kicked off his bid for a record third straight crown in the 72-hole men's championship class.

Almario was in the lead until he collapsed with three consecutive bogeys from the 13th but seems bent on giving Deen a tough time in the tourney serving as the …
