When they arrived in early July to work as counselors at the Nike All-American Camp in Indianapolis, they'd already known for a month their college teams would meet. Wake Forest vs. Illinois. The Atlantic Coast Conference vs. the Big Ten. But the most intriguing element of this early December game would be the matchup between the nation's most talented backcourts: the Demon Deacons' Chris Paul and Justin Gray vs. the Illini's Deron Williams and Dee Brown.

So nearly five months before tip-off, the scouting and psychological maneuvering already were under way.
