SMOOTH AS MILK: Milk Studios certainly learned its lesson after the fiasco that was the Calvin Klein show two years ago. At the Proenza Schouler show Monday afternoon, which drew its share of socials and fashion heavies alike - Karolina Kurkova, Margherita Missoni, Tory Burch, Jacqui Getty, Liz Goldwyn and the Traina sisters - everything went off without a hitch. Just seconds before the show began, Glenda Bailey swept in through the back door with nary a kerfuffle despite a star-studded, yet odd, grouping of celebs: Demi Moore, Ashton Kutcher and Victoria Beckham.
FASHIONABLY LATE: The much-anticipated relaunch of Madeleine Vionnet fashions by designer Sophia Kokosalaki won't happen during Paris Fashion Week after all. Instead, the debut collection, exclusive to Barneys New York, will be shown to select editors in New York and Paris at a later date, according to a Vionnet spokeswoman.
CHIC AND UNIQUE: A suitably eclectic crowd, which included Thandie Newton, Manolo Blahnik, Juergen Teller, Roland Mouret, Bella Freud and Erin O'Connor, gathered at London's National Portrait Gallery Wednesday night to fete the launch of "Individuals: Portraits From the Gap Collection," a history of the fashion brand's campaign shots. The tome celebrates the past three decades of Gap ads, which have starred celebrities from Tina Chow to Willie Nelson clad in their Gap duds, shot by the likes of Albert Watson and Peter Lindbergh.
"I did one of these myself, with Herb Ritts in 1991," mused Blahnik, as he inspected the black-and-white shots, which lined the building's Balcony Gallery. "I don't think it's here, though." Guests sipped champagne and took in the exhibition to the strains of live rock band Littl'ans, the latest protges of Hedi Slimane. "Let's hope they get around to using some London people [in the campaigns] too," said O' Connor, warming to her role as an ambassador for London Fashion Week.
