Aug. 27--North Las Vegas is the nation's second-fastest growing city of more than 100,000, but one city official said aiming simply for expansion isn't enough.
"Economic development is not just growth for the sake of growth. It's making sure people have jobs they can move up to, houses they can move up to and retail opportunities," said Mike Majewski, economic development manager of the city of North Las Vegas.
On Thursday, Majewski and two local real-estate analysts discussed the creation of those much-needed jobs, homes and shopping centers at the North Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce's Directions 2005: Economic Outlook of North Las Vegas. Their forecasts pointed to sustained growth in all areas of residential and commercial real estate.
Dennis Smith, president of Home Builders Research in Las Vegas, said the North Las Vegas housing market is posting steady growth. The city has 73 actively selling subdivisions, and it is capturing 25 percent of all foot traffic...
