The Super Guitar Trio consists of Al Di Meola, Larry Coryell (both legendary jazz-rock guitarists), and Bireli Lagrene (primarily known as a Gypsy swing player in the Django Reinhardt style).
Six pieces are presented from this live performance recorded in 1990: "PSP" by Coryell, "Orient Blue/Rhapsody of Fire" and "Mediterranean Sundance" by Di Meola, "Tango Suite" by Di Meola's mentor and tango king Astor Piazzolla, plus "Spain" and "No Mystery" by jazz pianist and Di Meola's former band mate, Chick Corea.
The gypsy flame ignites with the opening notes and erupts from there into a firestorm that is not quenched until the trio leaves the stage. All three players have taken inspiration from Spain's flamenco guitarists so that their rhythms and soloing, though solidly jazz at heart, come out with an intoxicating paella flavor.
