A special U.S. envoy embarked Wednesday on a difficult mission to help Turkey counter Iraq-based Kurdish guerrillas, whose war for autonomy threatens both the security of this U.S. ally and the stability of northern Iraq.
Retired U.S. Air Force Gen. Joseph Ralston began talks with Turkish leaders after three bombings by suspected Kurdish rebels Tuesday, including one that killed 10 people in the southeastern city of Diyarbakir.
