Advice aims to protect 'freshers' from crime By Bruce Smith Crime Reporter A MAJOR programme aimed at protecting thousands of new students from crime and raising their safety awareness is being launched.

West Yorkshire Police are linking-up with university and college security staffs as the "freshers" arrive in the county.

Special police operations are to be staged in districts close to academic centres and areas used by students.

On Thursday, police in Leeds will relaunch its annual Operation Walksafe with patrols being mounted by police and university security teams in the Hyde Park, Headingley, and Woodhouse …
