More than 80 per cent of Labour Party members in a city constituency believe Gordon Brown should succeed Tony Blair as Prime Minister.

The poll of members in Labour MP Sir Peter Soulsby's Leicester South constituency was conducted last month - before this week's political storm over when the PM will step down.

Mr Blair has confirmed he will go in the next 12 months, but has not yet given a date.
