Sep. 11--ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- State regulators are split over how much Public Service Company of New Mexico wants customers to pay for a power plant it built near Las Cruces.
All five Public Regulation Commissioners agree that PNM will, within a couple of years, need additional generating capacity to match electricity demand from its customers.
They disagree on whether the nearly $190 million PNM is asking to recoup through rates for its Afton plant is fair.
Commission chairman Ben Lujan, vice chairman Jason Marks and Lynda Lovejoy said they are concerned that the price may be too high and have hired an outside expert to study PNM's figures to determine whether the cost is justified.
