Earnings decline at REX, but same-store sales up.

Sep. 1--DAYTON -- REX Stores Corp. on Wednesday reported a drop in second-quarter earnings and an increase in same-store sales for the same period. The net income of the local electronics retailer's fiscal 2006 second quarter -- ended July 31 -- fell to $1.5 million, or 13 cents a share, from $8.7 million, or 70 cents a share a year ago.

REX net sales in the second quarter were $82.1 million, compared with $82.5 million for the same time last year. Its comparable store sales for the three months rose 3.5 percent.
