AN ONLINE map of piracy hotspots is now available to masters and owners whose vessels sail in such waters.

The International Maritime Bureau, behind the project, said the aim is to offer users a visual guide to the nature and location of attacks, to help them better understand and track incidents.

Viewers see not only the relief of the coastline but also bays and coves from which pirates could initiate attack.

The map is available as either a satellite view, provided by Google, a plain view (indicating countries and borders), or a combination of both.
