'BEING a woman in shipping is not difficult,' explains Carlijn Kortmann (top right).

'The 'woman' part is not the issue. The shipping part is.'

Ms Kortmann obtained her master of laws degree at Erasmus University Rotterdam in 2001.

She started her career at leading Dutch law firm AKD Prinsen Van Wijmen in February 2002, and is a member of the shipping, trade and insurance practice group.

Her emphasis is on inland shipping and seagoing shipping. She is involved in both litigating and advising in the field of shiprepair, the building of yachts and ships, personal injury, ship arrest and ship auctions.

Babet Reinders (below) is in her third year of training with the same firm, focusing in trade and transport.
