Byline: Charlotte Ljunggren's career path has led her from stockbroking to a job in the ferry business
Educated in the fields of finance and personnel, Ms Ljunggren began her career at a bank, selling stocks and bonds, which she found of great interest: she had to be always up to date on stock prices, currency, oil price risks and other market movements.
In 1993 she was recruited by SeaCat, a Swedish company owned by Sea Containers in London, as finance and personnel manager, to start up a ferry route between Gothenburg and Frederikshavn. In 1997, she became route director, a challenging post, and in co-operation with Color Line and later Silja Line, 'this gave me a very good knowledge of the ferry business.'
In 2003, she felt it was time to move on, and was offered a job on Stena Line as onboard service manager on the Stena Danica, a multi-purpose ferry for 2,274 passenger, 555 cars, 1,806 m length in freight capacity, and a service crew of 120 employees with a turnover of SKr240m ($33m).
This made her the first woman in Stena's history to be an onboard service manager. 'My task was to implement a business driven way of working onboard, to start up a management group, and involve captain, technical engineer and service managers.'
