DAEWOO Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering, the world's third largest shipbuilder, said yesterday it had signed a contract for a drilling and production platform for Cabinda Gulf Oil Co, an Angolan subsidiary of Chevron.
The offshore project, worth a whopping $1.27bn, is to be the world's largest offshore structure so far ordered.
With a total weight of approximately 85,000 tonnes, the tower drilling unit will be capable of drilling to the bottom of 400m seas.
DSME said that once the unit was installed off the West African coast in Angola's Tambuna-Landana offshore oil region it would be able to process 130,000 barrels of oil a day.
