THE Egyptian crew of a bulk carrier stranded in Charleston for more than two months face three further weeks on board following a court ruling that the vessel must be sold, writes David Osler.
District judge David Norton has ordered an auction of the ship on September 21.
The hope is that the vessel will raise around $2m, which will be set aside while legal claims are settled.
Edco (38,300 dwt, built 1980) was seized in June after a Hong Kong company filed a suit against its owner, named in US media reports as Misr Edco of Egypt.
The vessel had delivered a load of salt from Chile and was preparing to depart for South America.
