THE Vietnamese government has approved a third joint venture with Saigon Port to develop deepwater berths at Cai Mep, this time with SSA Marine, writes Marcus Hand in Singapore .
Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has approved a proposal for a joint venture between SSA and Saigon Port to develop two berths at a cost of $160m on the Thi Vai river close to Cai Mep.
While granting approval for the project, Mr Dung said that the Planning and Investment Ministry had to clarify with SSA its capital contribution, the funding capacity and the planned progress of the project.
The joint venture would develop two berths totaling 600 m in length and capable of handling 1.35m teu annually.
