Byline: Potential sale to MSC would create operation with fleet of about 23 ships and newbuildings, writes Rajesh Joshi in New York
NORWEGIAN Cruise Line yesterday refused to comment on market rumours suggesting that a potential sale of the Miami company to MSC Cruises was being negotiated 'behind closed doors' by parent Star Cruises.
The rumoured deal would create an operation with a fleet of about 23 publicly declared cruiseships and newbuildings, compared with 29 ships and six newbuildings for world number two Royal Caribbean before its acquisition of Pullmantur.
Anne-Marie Mathews, NCL director of public relations in Miami, said the company was making no public statement on the matter.
Star Cruises and MSC were not immediately available for comment.
Cruise industry analysts who have knowledge of the companies involved said that while the potential alliance was speculative it was not far-fetched.
