SYDNEY, Sept 1 Asia Pulse - A slightly faster increase in imports of goods and services compared with exports means foreign trade will make its eighteenth consecutive negative contribution to quarterly economic growth in the June quarter.

Data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) showed imports rose by 2.2 per cent in real terms, while exports were up by 1.4 per cent.

This implies growth in gross domestic product (GDP) in the quarter will undershoot total demand (spending, including investment in inventories) by 0.2 percentage points.
