SEOUL, Sept 1 Asia Pulse - SK Telecom Co. (KSE:003605), South Korea's largest mobile carrier, said Friday that it will complete building nationwide networks for faster and more seamless wireless communications next year in a bid to secure a lead in the future telecom sector.
In a statement, SK Telecom said that it will accelerate its efforts to make the high-speed downlink packet access or HSDPA available throughout the country by the first half of next year.
HSDPA is frequently called 3.5 generation (3.5G) communications platform, an improved version of the wideband code division multiple access system.
Under the new networks, users will be able to download data at seven times faster than that of the previous third-generation (3G) platform, the company said.
