PET SOUNDS -- We go to songs for the truth, to hear timeless verities that we do not express in our day-to-day lives. For example: "We all have holes in our socks, and Bad Brains totally rocks." Cautious, well-dressed adults might hesitate before singing these words, but those people are just dumb. Be Your Own Pet are four teen-agers from Nashville (one seventeen, two eighteen, one freshly nineteen) who sound exactly as old as they are. Their style is basic punk rock played fast and loose but skillfully, with an eye to getting things right, even when falling apart feels like fun.
