Q I have received an e-mail with several JPEG picture attachments, but am unable to open any of them. Windows describes them as an Unknown File Type and when I try to open them, I receive the message: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Folder Options control panel".
A Windows relies on the file extension to tell it what type a particular file is, so that it knows what application to select to open it with. We're guessing these images were sent from a Mac and the files don't have an extension, but it's possible the images are a different type, for which you have no software to open.
If they are JPEGs, one solution would be to save the attachments to your desktop, right-click and rename each one, adding the suffix ".jpg". This will tell Windows that these are JPEGs--and if they really are, your ...
