PUNTA GORDA -- The city apparently made a huge mistake.

And it's sending Harbor Inn & Yacht Club developer Joe Suriol back to his legal team and possibly back to the design stage for the marina, spa, shops, offices, hotel, condo and promenade planned on the riverfront.

"If this was a criminal case, it would be the equivalent of double jeopardy," said Suriol, whose company Interdevco is based in Sarasota. "We have gone through a proper, fully documented process."

Suriol's development on the Peace River has been considered one of the defining projects for the future of Punta Gorda.
