Speed dry
A fast blowout in three easy steps. By Patricia Tortolani
They say cheaters never win, but when it comes to achieving a flawless blowout fast, a little trickery has its benefits. "In a perfect world, we'd all have time to dry our hair section by section every morning," says hairstylist Tabatha Willard of the Canale Salon in Beverly Hills. "But that's just not the case." Fortunately, there are shortcuts that won't compromise the end result. David Dieguez, of XO Blow Styling Salon in New York City, says the key to a speedy blowout is removing 95 percent of the moisture with an 1,850-watt dryer before even picking up a brush. "Finger-drying creates volume at the roots and allows you to get through the bottom sections fast, so you can focus on the pieces that frame your face and still finish in half the time," he explains. This technique has a secondary benefit: "When you go from soaking wet to completely dry hair in a short amount of time, you reduce the risk of developing frizz, which is often the result of air-drying," says hairstylist Christine Healey. The result: a smooth, glossy mane and still enough time for every section of the newspaper.
