Though 50 may be the new 30 (or so proclaimed Oprah on the occasion of her own mid-century marker two years ago), it's a fact that mature skin has different needs than younger complexions-and not just in terms of skin care. While there is certainly no shortage of cosmetics available today, all makeup-from foundation and concealer to eye shadow and lipstick-does not fit all. "As you get older, skin gets thinner, drier; it also gets darker around the eyes," says the veteran editorial makeup artist Sandy Linter, who is herself 58. If a product is too heavy, or even too iridescent, it can settle into lines, making existing wrinkles more obvious, she says. The best cosmetics companies have wisely come to the rescue with
