Aug. 19--WARETOWN -- School district officials say they will move forward with plans for a Sept. 26 referendum to renovate two schools despite a plea from Mayor Daniel Van Pelt to hold off on the vote.
The referendum will ask voters to approve a $13.5 million expansion and renovation plan for the district's two existing elementary schools: Waretown Elementary and Frederic A. Priff.
But Van Pelt said Friday he believes the money would be better spent on a new school, and thinks he can persuade state officials to help fund it.
