Along with a tangy, cold glass of lemonade, the table next to my summer reading chair used to hold just one light, breezy mystery. Like my life, the table today reflects a more diverse/eclectic lifestyle, holding a pile of treats waiting to teach me something.

* 12 Sharp by Janet Evanovich. I used to walk to my public library each Saturday to see if a new Nancy Drew was waiting for me. Janet Evanovich's novels bring me that same feeling of expectancy. My niece picked it up for me yesterday, after pre-ordering it to be sure we had copies on the first day. Reading it takes only about three hours, but it reminds me of the special bond between Becky and me. Evanovich was the first author she really enjoyed, and Aunt Mary picked it out for her. Summer is about family.

* Real Simple is my favorite browsing magazine right now. I like the title. I like that in short bits of information, it can tell me how to make a colander tea light glow on a summer's night. I like the clean lines of the page. It's a magazine I've given as gifts and always pass on to someone else. Summer is about being simple.
