Service learning and leadership education show up in two different places on most organizational charts. Few students see themselves as leaders.
Judith Plummer, adjunct assistant professor of education at King's College in Wilkes-Barre PA, helps students to discover the leaders in themselves through her "Leadership for the 21st Century" course.
In spring 2006 she taught one section to participants in a service learning program, Scholars in Service to Pennsylvania. They learned to relate their service to a capacity for leadership that they hadn't known they possessed.
