A 15-year sexual discrimination dispute between Columbia University NY and a professor is likely headed to trial later this year. The professor already sued the school once, but it went back on the agreement, so Graciela Chichilnisky is suing them again. She was tenured in mathematics and economics at Columbia University in 1980 and holds an endowed post there as the UNESCO professor there.
Chichilnisky said her problems began in 1991, when she filed a lawsuit against the school for salary discrepancies. In 1995, Columbia settled and awarded her $500,000 in damages and more than doubled her salary, from $57,000 to $107,000. The school also promised her an annual $50,000 grant for a research center.
