Texas launches virtual border patrol with video surveillance.(Brief article)
Responding to mounting political pressure to deal with the federal government's failure to enforce our border, Texas Governor Rick Perry has announced that his state is installing hundreds of hidden cameras along the border with Mexico and enlisting citizens to assist government officials in monitoring the cameras via the Internet.
"By leveraging advanced video technology and the power of the World Wide Web, and with an increased financial commitment from the state of Texas, we can make our border stronger and our nation safer," Perry said, when announcing the $5 million program on June 1.
