Nov. 19--Charles Thomas' eyes welled with tears when he heard the news.
Chubby's will close Dec. 10.
Thomas embraced Shirley L. Lendo on the sidewalk in front of the Penn Street shop that is arguably home to the best Italian hoagies and hot peppers in Berks County.
Lendo dabbed her eyes with a tissue and sobbed as Thomas, who lives in Reading, offered to do anything to help.
There was nothing, she said.
