Aug. 25--Jo Peay, the new president of the International Association of Administrative Professionals, began her career in the mid-1970s when administrative professionals were called secretaries.

The label is not the only thing that's changed.

"We have come a long way because executives are realizing the values that administrative professionals bring to their companies," she said yesterday.

Some people say that businesses are really run behind the scenes by administrative professionals, but Peay looks at it as a team effort with management.

"I think it's a partnership," she said.
