Jul. 2--Mother Nature is not Alan Greenspan, but she has become quite the economist in her own right. Her gully-washing rains and unseasonably cool weather are impacting Waco's water parks, movie theaters, roofers and pest-control specialists.

Through Wednesday, Waco had received nearly 8 inches of rain this month, though the normal for June is closer to 3 inches. Yard mowers are treading water, and owners of fireworks stands are praying that the weather stays nice through July Fourth.

At Genie Car Wash, 916 N. Valley Mills Drive, owner Kyle Nielsen was wishing earlier in the week the Genie would grant him one wish: blue skies. He got that wish Thursday, but Nielsen said it's too late to recoup his losses.

"I'm having 45 percent less traffic than I normally would; that's for the whole month of June," he said.

He said Genie is issuing rain checks. But Nielsen also has implemented another promotion for July, hoping to change his luck. For $29.95, he said, a customer can get an unlimited number of basic car washes for 30 days.

Kelly Jackson, part-owner of Cumby Spraying & Pest Control, said the wet weather is beginning to bug her. "We really can't treat anything on the outside," she said. "You can spray, leave a residual down. But if it...
