Jun. 29--Using $10.3 million in state funding, Merck & Co. has purchased the land in northern Durham County where it plans to build a $300 million vaccine production facility.

The New Jersey pharmaceutical giant closed on a 262-acre tract in Treyburn Corporate Park on June 21, according to a deed filed last week. Deed taxes indicate a purchase price of nearly $41,000 an acre, or $10.3 million.
