NORTH PORT -- After graduating only one starter from last season's Class 5A state volleyball championship team, Venice High picked up where it left off.
The Lady Indians opened the season with a 25-9, 25-9, 25-11 three-game sweep of North Port Tuesday night in a Class 5A-District 12 match at North Port High.
Venice (1-0) used 15 aces, including nine by junior All-State setter Nickie Halbert, en route to the victory.
