The University of Colorado's examination of tenure policies and its recommendations are getting mixed reviews.
CU leaders said that shifting workloads to allow minorities and women more time for mentoring and serving on committees would help attract more minorities. Another idea was to accommodate faculty doing community and ethnic-based research. However, after reviewing the proposals, the school noted that these moves would most likely do little to improve diversity in the classroom. The review also noted that changing workloads would probably not be a popular move among faculty.
