As the story of an alleged rape at a Duke University lacrosse team party continues to unfold, a grand jury indicted a third player on charges of first-degree rape, sexual offense and kidnapping.
The player, team co-captain David Evans, maintained his innocence. Teammates Reade Seligmann and Collin Finnerty were previously indicted on the same charges, which stem from an off-campus house party in March. A 27-year-old black mother of two from North Carolina University claimed that she was held in a bathroom, raped and beaten by three white men after she was hired to dance at the party.
Meanwhile, questions and criticism continue to grow in officials' handling of the case. According to a Duke report, the school underestimated the rape charges in part because Durham police initially said the accuser "was not credible."
