It's no secret that the academy is unfriendly to women, or that the current academic career model is obsolete. But what's the best method to effect change? Recent research may provide some answers and ideas.

At the March 2006 conference of the Northern California Network of the American Council on Education's Office of Women in Higher Education in San Francisco, Dr. Debra Meyerson discussed three research models for promoting change and the benefits and limitations of each. A professor in the Stanford University CA school of education, she spoke on "Influencing Your Institution through Tempered Radicalism."
