Police probe halts MP's peers cash row inquiry.

Mps suspended a Parliamentary inquiry into the cash for peerages row yesterday after police warned it could undermine their criminal investigation.

The Commons Public Administration Committee postponed further hearings as part of its inquiry into propriety in the honours system.

The committee's Labour chairman, Tony Wright, said it did not want to prejudice an investigation by the Metropolitan Police.

"It's pretty clear that some of the witnesses that we have identified are very much in the frame as far as the police are concerned, " he said.
