I am writing on behalf of Kevin Winslow, M.D., medical director at the Florida Institute for Reproductive Medicine in Jacksonville ("Egg Freezing in IVF Holds Promise," July 1, 2005, p. 1).
The statement, "The most extensive U.S. experience with oocyte freezing is from the IVF program at Community Hospital North in Indianapolis, where there have been 13 births reported from frozen oocytes since 1999," is false. We at the Florida Institute for Reproductive Medicine have had far greater experience with this technology. As of July 2005, we have had 34 babies born from cryo egg and we currently have six pregnancies.
The article also stated, "Dr. Cline declared a potential conflict of interest in that he has recently started the world's first frozen-donor-oocyte bank." The Florida institute had the first commercial oocyte bank in this country, which started in 1996. Our first documented pregnancy from cryo egg was in ...
