Aug. 10--PITTSBORO -- Despite a claim by the Chatham County Commissioners' chairman that a plan to buy water from Harnett County is a nearly done deal, one of his board colleagues said Wednesday he'd like to see the proposal tabled until three new commissioners take office.

Frequent turnover in the county's utilities department coupled with a lack of sufficient research on the options for increasing the water supply were just two of the reasons Commissioner Patrick Barnes cited for why he'd like to put the brakes on the plan.
