InsidersO Guide Total MAkeover
packing it on By Meirav Devash
Whether it means dinner in a four-star restaurant or a slice of pizza at an airport Sbarro, traveling can be rough on the diet. But on their recent trips, Robyn Gombar, Janeene Fears, and Michelle Rodak were determined not to stray from the path to slimness. New York City weight-loss specialist Stephen Gullo emphasizes that Obon voyageO and Obon apptitO are not synonymous: OWhen traveling for a family visit, a business trip, or a vacation, dieters should bear in mind the reason theyOre thereNand not turn it into a culinary tour.O

PAST TRAVELS: OBefore I started
Total Makeover, I thought of business trips, like my recent one to Arizona, as a treat. I convinced myself that while I was away, I deserved to go overboard. On the plane, I always polished off a bag of potato chips or Gummi Bears. The thought of visiting a gym never occurred to meNI felt like I should relax when I could.O
NEW ITINERARY: OThis time, I planned ahead. Instead of eating the in-flight meal, I brought fruit salad and Polly-O String Cheese. Stephen Gullo had given me a motivational tape to prepare me for the struggles I might run into on my trip. Listening to it every morning helped me stay focused. Before my meetings, I snuck a few pieces of fruit from the breakfast buffet into my bag for snacks later. The resort had a great gym, and it was surprisingly easy to hit it in the afternoonsNand I saw many of my coworkers doing the same thing. I allowed myself a couple of cocktails each night, but still, when I returned home, I had dropped half a pound.O
